Drowning In It

I choose this day

to drown in Your love, God

instead of drown in my problems

and sorrows

I stand waiting

for Your showers of grace

to cover my whole self

You pour out Your liquid love

as if there were no water restrictions

and in turn

I will pour into those who know not

limitless love

– Susie Stewart

And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because He has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with His love.

– Romans 5:5

There’s more to come: We continue to shout our praise even when we’re hemmed in with troubles, because we know how troubles can develop passionate patience in us, and how that patience in turn forges the tempered steel of virtue, keeping us alert for whatever God will do next. In alert expectancy such as this, we’re never left feeling shortchanged. Quite the contrary—we can’t round up enough containers to hold everything God generously pours into our lives through the Holy Spirit!

– Romans 5:3-5 (MSG)

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!

– 1 John 3:1 (NIV)

Immeasurably More

God,

I know You can do

immeasurably more

than my brain can contain

more than I can think

to ask for

more than I can imagine

in all my ponderings

So I ask You,

to expand my understanding

Enlarge my belief

that I might not miss You’re power

at work within me

So that I might believe

for more

Go overboard

in me

and around me

today

I’ll be watching expectantly

and doing my best

to not underestimate

You

– Susie Stewart

Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

– Ephesians 3:20,21 (NIV)

Now to Him who is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly more than all that we dare ask or think [infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams], according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations forever and ever. Amen.

– Ephesians 3:20,21 (AMP)

God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, His Spirit deeply and gently within us.

Glory to God in the church!
Glory to God in the Messiah, in Jesus!
Glory down all the generations!
Glory through all millennia! Oh, yes!

– Ephesians 3:20,21 (MSG)

Grace Flow

Today, my friend

I pray for you to know

really know

the grace that is yours

I pray that in the midst

of all the Have Tos

and Suppose Tos

and Got Tos

that you find the rhythms

of God’s grace flowing in you

That you enjoy

just being loved

And that you don’t forget to breathe in grace

and exhale praise

strengthened by God

knowing He is not burdensome

I pray this for you today

– Susie Stewart

But if it is by grace [God’s unmerited favor], it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace is no longer grace [it would not be a gift but a reward for works].

– Romans 11:6 (AMP)

For out of His fullness [the superabundance of His grace and truth] we have all received grace upon grace [spiritual blessing upon spiritual blessing, favor upon favor, and gift heaped upon gift].

– John 1:16 (AMP)

So you, my son, be strong [constantly strengthened] and empowered in the grace that is [to be found only] in Christ Jesus.

– 2 Timothy 2:1 (AMP)

Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to Me. Get away with Me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with Me and work with Me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with Me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.

– Matthew 11:28-30 (MSG)

The amazing grace of the Master, Jesus Christ, the extravagant love of God, the intimate friendship of the Holy Spirit, be with all of you.

– 2 Corinthians 13:14 (MSG)

Who’s In Charge Here?

Lord, You’ve been convicting me

and I’ve only had one ear open

But You’ve got my attention

this morning

What You require is hard

for me

In this relationship You and I have

I seem to knowingly

and unknowingly

try to take the lead

It can be so subtle

or it can be blatant

I say that I’m following YOU

and yet I seem to find myself

making the rules

You taking the lead

means bowing my will

my time

my desires

my selfishness

It means that I actually seek You first,

not my own lists

Oh, the never ending to-do lists…

It means pursuing my God,

my Love,

with determination

to see what You are saying

where You are leading

When to be silent

when to speak

When to act

when to stay still

Bowing my will

YOU are my perfect leader

in this relationship we have

A lot of the time I know when I’m following

and when I’m trying to lead

My control of Almighty God is a facade

Forgive me, God

Lead on

– Susie Stewart

We humans keep brainstorming options and plans, but God’s purpose prevails.

– Proverbs 19:21 (MSG)

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Eternal, “plans for peace, not evil, to give you a future and hope—never forget that.

– Jeremiah 29:11 (VOICE)

I know, God, that mere mortals
    can’t run their own lives,
That men and women
don’t have what it takes to take charge of life.
So correct us, God, as You see best.

I have a Complaint About Complaining

Complaining

is worthless

Words reeking of self

and ungratefulness

Of no benefit

to those who hear

Complaints

come out

and hang in the air stagnant

Perspective

Gratitude

Selflessness

Patience

Graciousness

– they are needed when tempted

by dissatisfaction

Complaining

is an outward expression

of a heart in need of joy

And joy is found in Jesus,

the One who should have had the most

to complain about

but didn’t

– Susie Stewart

Don’t let even one rotten word seep out of your mouths. Instead, offer only fresh words that build others up when they need it most. That way your good words will communicate grace to those who hear them.

– Ephesians 4:29 (VOICE)

Do everything without complaining and arguing, so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people. Hold firmly to the word of life; then, on the day of Christ’s return, I will be proud that I did not run the race in vain and that my work was not useless.

– Philippians 2:14-16 (NLT)

Do everything readily and cheerfully—no bickering, no second-guessing allowed! Go out into the world uncorrupted, a breath of fresh air in this squalid and polluted society. Provide people with a glimpse of good living and of the living God. Carry the light-giving Message into the night so I’ll have good cause to be proud of you on the day that Christ returns. You’ll be living proof that I didn’t go to all this work for nothing.

– Philippians 2:14-16 (MSG)

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

– James 1:2-4 (NIV)

Find Me True

For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him….

– 2 Chronicles 16:9 (NIV)

Every day we make

Choices

Too many to count

choices

about how we spend our time

how we treat people

what we will eat

how we will respond,

or react

where we will go

what we will think about

Who or what we worship

And, Lord,

my deepest desire

is for You to find me faithful,

for You to see me

seeking You

and that the choices I make

are directed by You

Your eyes roam the earth

to find the faithful

the committed

the wise

and that’s who I want to be

one of the few

who seeks You wholeheartedly

and makes choices

in Your strength

and with Your wisdom

eyes on You

as You find me true

– Susie Stewart

God looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God.

– Psalm 53:2 (NIV)

God has looked down from heaven upon the children of men To see if there is anyone who understands, Who seeks after God [who requires Him, who longs for Him as essential to life].

– Psalm 53:2 (AMP)

God sticks His head out of heaven. He looks around. He’s looking for someone not stupid— one man, even, God-expectant, just one God-ready woman.

– Psalm 53:2 (MSG)

From heaven the True God examines the earth to see if any understand the big picture, if any seek to know the True God.

– Psalm 53:2 (VOICE)

A Free Prisoner

I am

Your prisoner, Lord

and what a freedom I have found

in this captivity!

Captivated by Your Love

and surrendered to Your will

I am free

when I bow myself

to You

Fully

and completely

My heart

My life

My marriage

My posessions

My family

My future

Everything

I am Your prisoner, Lord

Willingly,

I am Yours

– Susie Stewart

For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for the sake of you Gentiles…

– Ephesians 3:1 (NIV)

This Lord is the Spirit. Wherever the Lord’s Spirit is, there is freedom.

– 2 Corinthians 3:17 (GW)

Whenever, though, they turn to face God as Moses did, God removes the veil and there they are—face-to-face! They suddenly recognize that God is a living, personal presence, not a piece of chiseled stone. And when God is personally present, a living Spirit, that old, constricting legislation is recognized as obsolete. We’re free of it! All of us! Nothing between us and God, our faces shining with the brightness of his face. And so we are transfigured much like the Messiah, our lives gradually becoming brighter and more beautiful as God enters our lives and we become like him.

– 2 Corinthians 3:16-18 (MSG)

He went on a little farther and fell to the ground. He prayed that, if it were possible, the awful hour awaiting Him might pass Him by. “Abba, Father,” He cried out, “everything is possible for you. Please take this cup of suffering away from Me. Yet I want Your will to be done, not Mine.”

– Mark 14:35-36 (NLT)

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

– Galatians 5:1 (NIV)

Death Underfoot

You walked right out!

Out of that dark

stagnant

death

tomb!

You were laid there

by those who thought you were gone for good

but Joseph’s tomb

was only borrowed

You rolled the heavy stone away,

it could not keep You from us

And You walked right out!

You conquered

You defeated

You smashed

Death

Sin’s curse

Death’s grip

Oppression’s hold

are finished

Light

walked right out

of darkness

My Savior is alive!

– Susie Stewart

For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was His plan from before the beginning of time—to show us His grace through Christ Jesus. And now He has made all of this plain to us by the appearing of Christ Jesus, our Savior. He broke the power of death and illuminated the way to life and immortality through the Good News.

– 2 Timothy 1:9,10 (NLT)

Because God’s children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could He die, and only by dying could He break the power of the devil, who had the power of death. Only in this way could He set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying.

– Hebrews 2:14,15 (NLT)

When I saw Him, I fell at is feet as if I were dead. But He laid His right hand on me and said, “Don’t be afraid! I am the First and the Last. I am the living One. I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave.”

– Revelation 1:17,18 (NLT)

God promised this Good News long ago through His prophets in the holy Scriptures. The Good News is about His Son. In His earthly life He was born into King David’s family line, and He was shown to be the Son of God when He was raised from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit. He is Jesus Christ our Lord.

– Romans 1:2-4 (NLT)

Divine Silence

Silence

Deafening silence

And your heart is heavy

and grief-striken

How can one hope

in such circumstances?

When God is silent?

He left

and despair is overwhelming

But fight your despair,

for even when there is death,

there is hope

for the true follower

of Jesus

All may be silent

for a time

But dawn will come

tomorrow

And you will see

that what was dead

will be alive!

So in this place

of silence and mourning,

Hope

The end of the story

has not yet come

And our Divine Jesus

will not remain silent

– Susie Stewart

Late in the afternoon a wealthy man from Arimathea, a disciple of Jesus, arrived. His name was Joseph. He went to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body. Pilate granted his request. Joseph took the body and wrapped it in clean linens, put it in his own tomb, a new tomb only recently cut into the rock, and rolled a large stone across the entrance. Then he went off. But Mary Magdalene and the other Mary stayed, sitting in plain view of the tomb.

After sundown, the high priests and Pharisees arranged a meeting with Pilate. They said, “Sir, we just remembered that that liar announced while He was still alive, ‘After three days I will be raised.’ We’ve got to get that tomb sealed until the third day. There’s a good chance His disciples will come and steal the corpse and then go around saying, ‘He’s risen from the dead.’ Then we’ll be worse off than before, the final deceit surpassing the first.”

Pilate told them, “You will have a guard. Go ahead and secure it the best you can.” So they went out and secured the tomb, sealing the stone and posting guards.

– Matthew 27:57-66 (MSG)

Even in the unending shadows of death’s darkness, I am not overcome by fear. Because You are with me in those dark moments, near with Your protection and guidance, I am comforted.

– Psalm 23:4 (VOICE)

Be brave. Be strong. Don’t give up. Expect God to get here soon.

– Psalm 31:24 (MSG)

Darkness

You descended into darkness

for Me

willingly

You were covered in it

Light of the World,

You chose the dark

of torture

of death

of condemnation

of sin

of the tomb

for me

And if You hadn’t,

I would be floundering and suffering

in darkness

Lost

and alone

So thank You,

sweet Savior

for clothing Yourself in darkness

so I could be clothed in Your Light

– Susie Stewart

Then Pilate took Jesus and had Him flogged.  The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on His head. They clothed Him in a purple robe and went up to Him again and again, saying, “Hail, king of the Jews!” And they slapped Him in the face.

Once more Pilate came out and said to the Jews gathered there, “Look, I am bringing Him out to you to let you know that I find no basis for a charge against Him.”  When Jesus came out wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe, Pilate said to them, “Here is the man!”

As soon as the chief priests and their officials saw Him, they shouted, “Crucify! Crucify!”

But Pilate answered, “You take Him and crucify Him. As for me, I find no basis for a charge against Him.”

The Jewish leaders insisted, “We have a law, and according to that law He must die, because He claimed to be the Son of God.”

When Pilate heard this, he was even more afraid, and he went back inside the palace. “Where do you come from?” he asked Jesus, but Jesus gave him no answer. “Do you refuse to speak to me?” Pilate said. “Don’t you realize I have power either to free you or to crucify you?”

Jesus answered, “You would have no power over Me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed Me over to you is guilty of a greater sin.”

From then on, Pilate tried to set Jesus free, but the Jewish leaders kept shouting, “If you let this man go, you are no friend of Caesar. Anyone who claims to be a king opposes Caesar.”

When Pilate heard this, he brought Jesus out and sat down on the judge’s seat at a place known as the Stone Pavement (which in Aramaic is Gabbatha).  It was the day of Preparation of the Passover; it was about noon.

“Here is your king,” Pilate said to the Jews.

But they shouted, “Take Him away! Take Him away! Crucify Him!”

“Shall I crucify your king?” Pilate asked.

“We have no king but Caesar,” the chief priests answered.

Finally Pilate handed Him over to them to be crucified.
So the soldiers took charge of Jesus. Carrying His own cross, He went out to the place of the Skull (which in Aramaic is called Golgotha). There they crucified Him, and with Him two others—one on each side and Jesus in the middle.

Pilate had a notice prepared and fastened to the cross. It read: Jesus of nazareth, the king of the jews. Many of the Jews read this sign, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and the sign was written in Aramaic, Latin and Greek. The chief priests of the Jews protested to Pilate, “Do not write ‘The King of the Jews,’ but that this man claimed to be king of the Jews.”

Pilate answered, “What I have written, I have written.”

When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took His clothes, dividing them into four shares, one for each of them, with the undergarment remaining. This garment was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom.

“Let’s not tear it,” they said to one another. “Let’s decide by lot who will get it.”

This happened that the scripture might be fulfilled that said,

“They divided My clothes among them
and cast lots for My garment.”
So this is what the soldiers did.

Near the cross of Jesus stood His mother, His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw His mother there, and the disciple whom He loved standing nearby, He said to her, “Woman, here is your son,” and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.
Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips. When He had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, He bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

Now it was the day of Preparation, and the next day was to be a special Sabbath. Because the Jewish leaders did not want the bodies left on the crosses during the Sabbath, they asked Pilate to have the legs broken and the bodies taken down. The soldiers therefore came and broke the legs of the first man who had been crucified with Jesus, and then those of the other. But when they came to Jesus and found that He was already dead, they did not break His legs. Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus’ side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water. The man who saw it has given testimony, and his testimony is true. He knows that he tells the truth, and he testifies so that you also may believe. These things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled: “Not one of his bones will be broken,” and, as another scripture says, “They will look on the One they have pierced.”
Later, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Now Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because he feared the Jewish leaders. With Pilate’s permission, he came and took the body away. He was accompanied by Nicodemus, the man who earlier had visited Jesus at night. Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds. Taking Jesus’ body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen. This was in accordance with Jewish burial customs. At the place where Jesus was crucified, there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had ever been laid. Because it was the Jewish day of Preparation and since the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there.

God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.

“No one can take my life from me. I sacrifice it voluntarily. For I have the authority to lay it down when I want to and also to take it up again.”

As I watched the vision unfold, thrones were set in place, And the Ancient of Days took His throne above all. His clothes were the purest white, as white as snow, and the hair of His head was like the finest wool. His throne was a flaming fire, set on wheels that blazed like the sun.
