Blessing for Curses

Retaliation is human,

for wrongs committed

Cursing the offender,

is the usual way

Wishing harm to your enemies,

is so typical

But what is not

typical

is Your way, Jesus

Returning an offense

with a blessing

Persecution

with a prayer

Evil

with a peaceful demeanor

Impossible?

Not with the Holy Spirit

pouring love and blessing

into you

so that you

in turn

can pour out blessing on people

Being offended

is a choice you make

– Susie Stewart

Bless those who persecute you. Don’t curse them; pray that God will bless them. Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with each other. Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don’t think you know it all!

Never pay back evil with more evil. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable. Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone.

Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say,

“I will take revenge;
I will pay them back,”
says the Lord.
Instead,

“If your enemies are hungry, feed them.
If they are thirsty, give them something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap
burning coals of shame on their heads.”

Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good.

– Romans 12:14-21 (NLT)

Advocate

An Advocate

unmerited

A Voice

on my behalf

A Mediator

before the Most Holy

My Love

standing up for me

standing in my stead

My Defense

secure and uncorrupted

My Advocate

my Jesus

Love

pleading for me

– Susie Stewart

My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous.

– 1 John 2:1 (NLT)

For, There is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus.

– 1 Timothy 2:5 (NLT)

My little children (believers, dear ones), I am writing you these things so that you will not sin and violate God’s law. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate [who will intercede for us] with the Father: Jesus Christ the righteous [the upright, the just One, who conforms to the Father’s will in every way—purpose, thought, and action].

– 1 John 2:1 (AMP)

If you love me, show it by doing what I’ve told you. I will talk to the Father, and He’ll provide you another Friend so that you will always have someone with you. This Friend is the Spirit of Truth. The godless world can’t take Him in because it doesn’t have eyes to see Him, doesn’t know what to look for. But you know Him already because he has been staying with you, and will even be in you!

– John 14:15-17 (MSG)

But as it is, Christ has acquired a [priestly] ministry which is more excellent [than the old Levitical priestly ministry], for He is the Mediator (Arbiter) of a better covenant [uniting God and man], which has been enacted and rests on better promises.

– Hebrews 8:6 (AMP)

Christ didn’t go into a holy place made by human hands. He didn’t go into a model of the real thing. Instead, he went into heaven to appear in God’s presence on our behalf.

– Hebrews 9:24 (GW)

God will not lightly or easily lose His people. He has provided well for us: blood to wash us in; a Priest to pray for us, that we may be made to persevere; and, in case we foully fall, an Advocate to plead our cause.

– John Bunyan

…for the light makes everything visible. This is why it is said, “Awake, O sleeper, rise up from the dead, and Christ will give you light.”

– Ephesians 5:14 (NLT)

But God is rich in mercy because of his great love for us.  We were dead because of our failures, but He made us alive together with Christ. (It is God’s kindness that saved you.)

– Ephesians 2:4,5 (GW)

When we were baptized into His death, we were placed into the tomb with Him. As Christ was brought back from death to life by the glorious power of the Father, so we, too, should live a new kind of life.

– Romans 6:4 (GW)

Forsaken

You were forsaken

by the people you came to save

Condemned to die

as an innocent man

As God

And You willingly,

through tears and anguish,

torture and mockery

took my sentence

You were forsaken

by the Father You love

Your heart

Yourself

He had to turn His back to You

For You were dark

with my sin

You were forsaken

by everyone

And I can’t begin to know

how that must have felt

For that act

brought me love

and acceptance

Thank you, my  beautiful Savior,

for being forsaken

for me

– Susie Stewart

From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over all the land.  About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).

When some of those standing there heard this, they said, “He’s calling Elijah.”

Immediately one of them ran and got a sponge. He filled it with wine vinegar, put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink.  The rest said, “Now leave Him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to save Him.”

And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, He gave up His spirit.

At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life.  They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people.

When the centurion and those with Him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, “Surely He was the Son of God!”

Names Of God

I went looking online for a list.

An exhaustive list of the names of God.  This one caught my eye and I thought I would post it for you.

God is infinitely more than all we can think of or imagine.  This is a fairly comprehensive list of His revealed names in Scripture.  If you take the time to read over this list, mediate on it, and maybe even research parts of it, I don’t doubt that it will cause you to be in even more awe of God, our Everything.

Love Never Fails

Love never fails.

– 1 Corinthians 13:8 (NIV)

Love is the river that flows through. Love is the arms that are holding you. Love is the place you will fly to. Love never fails you.

-Brandon Heath

You stay the same through the ages. Your love never changes. There may be pain in the night. But joy comes in the morning.
The wind is strong and the water’s deep. I’m not alone here in these open seas cause Your love never fails.

-Newsboys

Higher than the mountains that I face. Stronger than the power of the grave. Constant in the trial and the change. One thing remains.
In death. In life. I’m confident and covered by the power of your great love.
My debt is paid. There’s nothing that can separate my heart from Your great love.
Your love never fails. It never gives up. It never runs out on me.

-Jesus Culture

Love never fails.

Everything else

Everyone else

may fall away

but God will never fail

you

He is the Love

the Constant

you are searching for.

– Susie Stewart

This is how much God loved the world: He gave His Son, His one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in Him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending His Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts in Him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust Him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person’s failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to Him.

– John 3:15-17 (MSG)

Voicemail

My cell phone

tells me my voice mailbox is almost full

That I need to delete some messages

in order to receive more

But I don’t want to

For there were points in time

when people I love and care about

left me messages

and they left an impression

on me

Dates and times frozen

With words of affirmation

of light

of life

of encouragement

to build up

saved in my little rectangular hip magnet

And I view these words

as the very love of God

spoken to my heart

On everyday days

at high points

at the lowest points

Thank you, dear ones,

for minutes spared

to lift up a sister

May my words, Lord,

bring the same

encouragement

whether spoken

written

or typed

– Susie Stewart

So speak encouraging words to one another. Build up hope so you’ll all be together in this, no one left out, no one left behind. I know you’re already doing this; just keep on doing it.

– 1 Thessalonians 5:10,11 (MSG)

What you say can preserve life or destroy it; so you must accept the consequences of your words.

– Proverbs 18:21 (GNT)

Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, Sweet and delightful to the soul and healing to the body.

– Proverbs 16:24 (AMP)

Here are some of those messages ….

* Well, now I have some on video!  Maybe I can make some room for more now. 😉

Sinking

Sink into His love today

up over your head

deep

deep

deep

Let the weightlessness

take your worry

your pain

your heaviness

Let the quiet

take all that speaks loud

and shouts at you

and distracts

Let the Living Water

refresh

and cleanse

and hydrate parched places

His love is a vast ocean

of hope and grace

Let go

and be enveloped

Sink not into despair

but into His love

…with all of Your people they will have the power to understand that the love of the Anointed is infinitely long, wide, high, and deep, surpassing everything anyone previously experienced. God, may Your fullness flood through their entire beings.

Not Safe

We are not all called to go to El Salvador, or Moscow, or Calcutta, or even the slums of New York, but none of us will escape the moment when we have to decide whether to withdraw, to play it safe, or to act upon what we prayerfully believe to be right, knowing that with all our prayers we may be wrong, and knowing that we will probably be punished by those who do not want universe-disturbers to stand up and be counted. Perhaps what we are called to do may not seem like much, but the butterfly is a small creature to affect galaxies thousands of light years away.

One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers—Simon, also called Peter, and Andrew—throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a living. Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow Me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” And they left their nets at once and followed Him.

A little farther up the shore He saw two other brothers, James and John, sitting in a boat with their father, Zebedee, repairing their nets. And He called them to come, too. They immediately followed Him, leaving the boat and their father behind.
– Matthew 4:18-22 (NLT)

Life is short, hell is hot and eternity is forever!!! The world has NEVER been impacted by Christians who spend their whole lives in a car seat and beg God to never let anything bad happen to them!

Ask HIM to set you on fire with HIS plans…and THEN GO FOR IT!

My biggest fear, even now, is that I will hear Jesus’ words and walk away, content to settle for less than radical obedience to Him.

Rest

To every toiling, heavy-laden sinner, Jesus says, Come to me and rest. But there are many toiling, heavy-laden believers, too. For them this same invitation is meant. Note well the words of Jesus, if you are heavy-laden with your service, and do not mistake it. It is not, Go, labor on, as perhaps you imagine. On the contrary, it is stop, turn back, Come to me and rest. Never, never did Christ send a heavy laden one to work; never, never did He send a hungry one, a weary one, a sick or sorrowing one, away on any service. For such the Bible only says, Come, come, come.”

– Hudson Taylor
My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.
– Exodus 33:14 (NIV)
My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will never be shaken.

– Psalm 62:1,2 (NIV)
Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

– Matthew 11:28, 29 (NIV)
Return to your rest, my soul, for the Lord has been good to you.

– Psalm 116:7 (NIV)
